Agronomy Department
Department Overview
The Department of Field Crops has been one of the main departments of the Faculty of Agriculture since its establishment in 1996. It specializes in teaching agricultural sciences related to the fundamentals, production, physiology, and breeding of field crops. The Department also conducts applied research aimed at improving crop productivity and quality while ensuring suitability to the environmental conditions of Upper Egypt.
Department Vision
The Department of Field Crops aspires to achieve academic leadership in field crop sciences and the management of renewable natural resources by attaining the highest standards in education, scientific and applied research, and the dissemination of research findings.
Department Mission
The Department of Field Crops, Faculty of Agriculture, Sohag University, is committed to contributing to the advancement of agricultural production by preparing highly qualified professionals in crop sciences and conducting basic and applied research studies and programs to address agricultural challenges and disseminate their findings. The Department also seeks to keep pace with scientific and technological advancements and strengthen the role of scientific research and development in achieving comprehensive and sustainable national development.
Department Objectives
- Preparing qualified graduates in agricultural production to work in various agricultural sectors.
- Conducting applied scientific research in plant production to investigate challenges affecting crop improvement and productivity and develop appropriate solutions.
- Contributing to raising agricultural awareness among farmers and those interested in agriculture, and disseminating up-to-date information on agricultural production.

Research Plan
Postgraduate Studies
Registration Periods for the Research Master’s Degree and Ph.D. in Field Crops
- First period: August 1–15 each year.
- Second period: January 1–15 each year.
Article (26): Required Documents for Registration for the Research Master’s Degree in Agricultural Sciences
- The original provisional Bachelor’s degree certificate and academic transcript (grade report).
- An equivalency certificate for the degree, if awarded by an institution outside Egypt.
- Military service status certificate for male applicants.
- Public service certificate for female applicants.
- Computerized birth certificate showing the national ID number.
- A copy of the national ID card for Egyptian applicants or a passport for non-Egyptian applicants.
- Proof of compliance with the rules established by the Supreme Council of Universities for the enrollment of international students.
- An envelope containing six recent personal photographs.
- Approval from the applicant’s employer to enroll in the Research Master’s program, if employed, or a declaration of full-time study if not employed.
- Completion of the Research Master’s registration forms, available from the Faculty’s Postgraduate Studies and Research Administration.
